I RECENTLY REBUILT AND RESURFACED A PAIR OF HEADS FOR A CUSTOMER OUT OF A HELI FORKLIFT.
4.3 GM PSI ENGINE. THE HEADS WERE REMOVED FOR BLOWN HEAD GASKETS, FIX EM UP AND GO.
THE ENGINE IS BACK TOGETHER RUNNING GOOD BUT OVERHEATS LIKE CRAZY. NEW WATER PUMP
NEW THERMOSTAT ETC. ANY IDEAS?
Is the rad core plugged inside ,or ouutside, and is there a restriction in the exhaust somewhere? Pull the front pipe off the exhaust manifold and run it to see if it heats up. If not, restriction in system.
with a full cooling system, it takes a lot longer than 10 min to get up to operating temp. you sure it’s actually overheating or is it just pushing coolant out the top of the rad. my guess is you have air in the system.
THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED. HE SENT THE RAD FOR A FLOW TEST AND WAS TOLD IT WAS OK.
AFTER SEVERL HOURS OF MESSING AROUND WITH IT HE TRIED A DIFFERENT RAD AND NO MORE
OVERHEATING. SO THE RAD WASN’T OK AT ALL.
